Atomic Blonde: Get the Look

I’ve always been a movie lover, yet I don’t typically like to rewatch any one particular movie (there are only a handful that make this elite group).  The costuming and fashion is so mesmerizing to me.  Many trends come from TV and film.  People want to be or relate to the character and therefore take some of the key pieces into their own wardrobes.  Think black sheath dress and pearl necklace worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, or when Diane Keaton wore menswear in Annie Hall.  There is also the off the shoulder sweatshirt in Flashdance and the leather jackets in Grease.  One of my all time favorites is Sex and the City of course, the show and the movies.  I in large part credit the amazing genius of Patricia Field, the costume designer of SATC, for influencing me to branch out and take risks in fashion and also to mix vintage into my wardrobe.

Well I want to be Lorraine Broughton, played by Charlize Theron in “Atomic Blonde”.  I do love all the 007 movies but it’s nice to see a female spy in the main role and……blondes have more fun, it’s true.  I actually did a study on this, I went to the dark side and did a short stent as a brunette.  Yep, it was short lived, that says it all, haha!  After seeing the movie and becoming obsessed with the wardrobe, I did some research and found a few of the signature pieces worn by Theron in the film!

I love sunglasses, so I always take note of the shades and these did not disappoint.  The signature style she wears in the movie and on the poster are Saint Laurent Slim 138.  I actually tried them on and they are quite small so they didn’t look quite right on my large face, but they are a great pair of shades!  I prefer the ones pictured on the bottom right below, also YSL but much larger with a flat top.

I always love when a stiletto is used for a weapon…which is the case in this film.  Obviously another excuse to buy new shoes, multifunctional, can also double as a defense mechanism!  I also appreciate the boots being both sexy and flexible and by flexible I mean you can kick some ass wearing them.  The movie featured Stuart Weitzman boots in a fight scene and I can say from personal experience they are very comfortable!  Seriously, if you are looking for a Fall/Winter boot, check them out, there are all different styles from flat to heel and ankle to thigh high.  The ones featured in the movie are shown below and are called “Lowlands”.

The wardrobe in the film has a very 80s vibe with a modern edge and an 80s soundtrack to match.  Besides everything being predominantly black and white, I am also obsessed with the fingerless gloves!  I don’t know why, but I love them, I think they give you the same feeling as wearing a black leather jacket, ‘don’t mess with me’.  Other pieces featured were also long black leather gloves, a black beanie and fishnet stockings and black lace lingerie with angular details.

After some research I unfortunately found out that the white vinyl trench Theron wears in the opening is actually a vintage Galliano.  Ugh.  Someone please make it again!  She also wears Burberry and the only other red piece besides the pumps is a red vintage Dior trench.  I found some similar pieces below which you can click to shop!

Do you know what glasses she’s wearing that are not sunglasses? They are a light colored frame and opaque lens.
