One of my New Year’s resolutions this year was to follow my passion. Yes, resolutions, blah, blah, blah, but I figured this one would be fun and worth it. I loved playing dress up for as long as I can remember which dates back to my obsession with pink and purple as a child (which may or may not have caused a few toddler tantrums). Yikes! And now my favorite color is black (technically the absence of color), eh well I guess you can count gold and silver too if you must. My point is all things fashion, beauty, and makeup (thanks Dad for letting me practice on you decades ago) have been a love of mine from the beginning and that love has never wavered, you could argue it is the one flame in my life that has not gone out.
So here I am, starting a fashion and lifestyle blog. Many may think being passionate about such a field is shallow, vain, futile, superficial, lacking intellect….the list goes on. You know the stereotypes….when you are in college and are constantly asked the obligatory question of “What’s your major?”, fashion just doesn’t get the respect as say, pre-law, pre-med, engineering, finance, etc. At my alma mater it was actually called apparel marketing…..slightly better I suppose. Don’t worry I didn’t stick with that major for long. All it took was a study abroad semester in London, England. My first two weeks in London opened my eyes to the fashion industry like I have never seen before. Throughout my time there I worked backstage at London Fashion Week, helped produce a runway show at my University, interned in an apparel and accessories showroom, spent countless hours perusing back issues of Vogue, studied designer collection archives, visited museums and of course traveled Europe. Fun fact: I also managed for the first time ever to break a stiletto heel in half….on the streets of London…awesome. I blame that incident for my first expensive shoe purchase…my thought process was clearly I’m not spending enough on quality shoes…haha. My first ‘investment’ purchase is probably not one you would guess. Here, I’ll give you a hint…remember Madonna’s Don’t Tell Me music video?? Yes, this girl from Kansas bought a pair of pink cowgirl boots in London. Don’t ask, I can’t explain it either, other than I was idolizing Madonna at the time (and still do). You better believe I still have them too, they are close to being certifiably vintage! Fast forward to today, I live and work in Chicago, where I have been since 2006. I have worked in my current field of healthcare for 5 years and decided it is finally time to commit to “create a life you love”.
I will use this blog to take you along the creative side of my life, with everything from fashion inspiration to my favorite new lip color to my favorite places to shop, gift ideas, and everything in between. There may be some technical bumps along the way as far as my site, but I promise it will be a constant work in progress, just hold on with me for the ride, I’ll make it worth your while. Of course if there are ever any burning style questions you may have, I’m always available! Just email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
