It only comes around once a year, The Academy Awards, or as I choose to call it, the couture fashion parade. It is a great time to see runway fashion come to life on the red carpet. Although most actresses are only slightly more shapely than the rail thin supermodels at least they are styled for an event and not an artistic 10 minute runway show. Don’t get me wrong, I love runway shows, but sometimes it’s hard to see how the dress would look in a different setting/styling.
Overall, I found everyone to be playing it a bit safe this year. Without further ado, here are my picks for the best and worst dressed…
Gorgeous, eye-catching, excellent tailoring and fit. Movie. Star.
Love the volume of the dress, very grandeur. Sort of reminiscent of a wedding dress, but I don’t care. I would have added a bright lip though.
Beautiful tone for her skin and hair. Pure Hollywood glamour. Nailed make-up and hair.
Red carpet Pro. Perfection. Even with the pixie hair she looks as glamorous as ever. Take that Anne Hathaway!
Zoe Saldana (minus the belt)
Alexis Mabille Couture
Love the everything about this dress except for that stupid belt. Please note that I’m only putting this on the best dressed by pretending the belt is gone.
Amazing. Again, a seasoned pro on the red carpet. Shiny, silky straight hair adorned with a well placed jewel on the side and a slinky sheer lacy masterpiece. Well done Ms. Bullock.
Really, Anne? What the hell is this? I could have bought this in the 90s at the local mall to wear to my High School prom! She was an early favorite for an Oscar (which means every single designer probably sent her their most amazing couture gowns to choose from) and she majorly disappointed! She should have gone with the sheer Armani she chose to wear on stage for the Les Mis song. Ugh, I’m too upset to say more.
Um, hmm. I mean I guess this wasn’t terrible but I was just not impressed. I’m just not a fan of pale colors on her, I think she gets washed out, even though I did like Jessica Chastain’s gown, this just isn’t working for me. I prefer her in more striking colors like red, black or that navy confection she wore to the SAG awards here. Or as I said for Anne, she should have gone with the red Givenchy gown she wore for the Les Mis song.
Ok you’ve got the body, I should get your workout tapes, but what were you thinking with this dress!? No, no, no. That front center seam is not flattering. Take your frosted tips, shoulder pads and front pleating back to the 90s!
Velvet, high choker collar. No and no. This was just a miss. Maybe with different hair and make-up and train or more volume on the bottom it would have been better. But this was just eh.
I’m all for recycling, but not your gray sweatpants on the red carpet! Yuck. I could have made this with a gray snuggie and some sequin appliques from Jo-Ann Fabrics.
What is with the batman logo on her stomach?? Also the little curly circles on the bottom are just too much like a doodle pad. Fail.
First, why is she at the Oscars again? Hot. Mess.
