The new Summer uniform

Well you wouldn’t know it by the weather, but Summer is just around the corner and since I avoid shorts like the plague, I have found two very good alternatives.  Both of which cover all the bits shorts do not and at the same time will prove to be just as comfortable and cool.

The button front midi skirt

Once I started looking for examples of these I was surprised how many I found!  So that tells me you will be definitely seeing these around this Summer.  To keep it fresh, pair it with an interesting top like the open back top below or any top with an interesting design aspect or textured material like an embroidered top.  Also making a strong presence is the rattan or woven handbag.  They come in all styles from totes to cross body bags to clutches.  The one pictured below is only $58 and comes in multiple colors!  Click the scroll below the picture for more info!

The tie waist pant

The key with these is to keep the top simple and fitted.  These can easily look frumpy and unflattering if you are wearing a top that is too big or baggy.  I suggest a simple cami or even a bodysuit would work well here.  I love all the simple and modern looking leather sandals this season.  I’ve got my eye on a pair…I’ll let you know later which ones I decide on!  I like tortoise as a neutral accent for Summer.  If you click through the scroll below this picture I have put a few more tortoise accessories!

Style Update: Freshen up for Spring

First let me start by saying I want everything I have shown in this post!!!  Now get excited, I have picked out a few of my favorites and showed different ways of styling certain pieces.  Scroll away and as always you can shop this post at the end or on the Shop page!

This dress can be styled so many ways, but I went with a more casual look below with flats and hat.  Also still somewhat casual above, but without the hat and wedges makes it more appropriate for a wedding or similar event.

I love this look below and it can get you through the awkward weather transition to Spring.  The necklace is absolutely on my wish list!!  I love long pendant necklaces, they draw the eye down and in making the illusion you are taller and thinner.  Trust me, a V shape necklace will always look better than a U shape.  A necklace with a pendant that creates a V shape knows where it is going, a U shape takes off over one boob or the other or around both and maybe even stuck in your cleavage, lol!

Ah yes, a jumpsuit, my favorite!  I think this one can go either way, casual or dressed up.  Oh and it’s only $49!!

Anyway this look is a little more fashion forward with sharp black and white accessories.  I’m currently having a small addiction to white shoes.  I love them, I can’t get enough of them!

Before you even think, yes that is a fanny pack shown above, of course they are more fashionably referred to as belt bags now.  Consider yourself informed.  Don’t worry, more belt bags to come in future posts!

Here are a few more new pieces to update your wardrobe.  I’ve been eyeing the cami and leather jacket for awhile now, but I haven’t pulled the trigger yet (keyword being yet).

Spring Style: $100 & under

So this is one of the rare times you will see me post so much pink.  I like pink, we get along, but usually only when it comes to lipstick and nail polish.  I usually like to put a certain edge on my own style and pink is a challenge to fit in but…..(there’s always a but)…I can handle it in small doses and it can be very pretty.

Pastels have hit the runways and you will see quite a bit of it this Spring.  Here are a few of my picks to freshen up your look with a lighter hue.

So these sandals are not under $100, but they are 50% off and I bought them last Spring and wore them EVERYWHERE and they will definitely be in rotation again this year!  They are so comfortable!!!  Shop them here!

What to Wear: NYE

I know, I know,  I just gave you Christmas looks yesterday, but it’s never too early to start planning your NYE outfit!  Don’t worry I will post more next week as well!

I usually love gold and it is hard to peel me away, but any of these looks, especially the jumpsuit would do the trick!

Aside from the stilettos, this look is soooo comfortable!  Bonus is that the coat, top and pants are all under $100!  That faux fur coat is from Target!

So it’s obvious I love a good jumpsuit!  I also love mixing leopard with red, even if it is just a red pair of heels or red lip.  It’s just classic, just be sure not to overdo it!  I go by the rule of only one leopard print item or accessory at a time.

Ahh more sequins, and these aren’t itchy either!!  I actually bought this striped top in a size larger because I wanted it to look a little baggy for an off the shoulder top.

Cool Cousin: Jenn’s Guide to Chicago

Even though I wasn’t born and raised here, I do claim to be a Chicagoan,  I’ve been here 11yrs and I love this city!

Often friends, family and friends of friends ask for advice on where to go and what to do when visiting Chicago and I’m always more than happy to share this amazing little piece of the world.

I actually at one time had a pre-fab email with all of my favorite bars, restaurants and shopping areas.  Well, now you can find me on an app!  Yep, you read that right!  I stumbled upon Cool Cousin when I was looking for unique places to see when in Paris earlier this year.  I loved it so much I wanted to help out with Chicago!!  You can search through profiles of locals of cities across the world and find out where their favorite coffee shop is or essentially a more authentic tour guide.  You can find someone who seems to have the same style or interests as you and then look at their custom map with all of their hot spots and a little description of each.  I had so much fun putting this together and I have shared some of the pics from the photoshoot!

You can download the app here or go to the website here!   Enjoy and let me know what you think!

Please excuse the hair…it was about 90 degrees the day we did this photoshoot!  Thank goodness the dripping sweat isn’t showing, ha!
