Lately I have been waking up to a dry nose and throat. This means it is definitely time to change up the skincare routine for the drier months, well at least here in Chicago.
I would consider myself to be a beauty product junkie, so this is a well reviewed and curated list of skincare items. I will also remind you I do not like to spend hours applying tons of products, so I consider these the bare necessities.
Clarisonic: Well worth the money for a deep clean and gentle exfoliator, which is key to keep flaky dry skin at bay
Moisturizer: I have tried many, many department store brands and drugstore brands and this one is by far my favorite for year round. It is lightweight and has an SPF (yes you need an SPF in the Winter)
Under Eye Cream: A must have. Every night. Do it. This is a little pricier but can be found in your local drugstore and has the important ingredient, retinol.
Night Moisturizer: Theoretically you could use a ‘day’ moisturizer at night, but the reason I choose not to is usually due to the SPF factor. Also night creams can be a little thicker and nutrient rich which you would not want during the daytime.
Humidifier: Probably the best thing you can buy for dry skin. No joke. Mine is on every night in the cold, dry months….miracle worker.
Eye Makeup Remover: I believe this is the best one out there and if you are a lover of mascara and eye makeup, then you must have this. No scrubbing or extra rubbing on the sensitive eye area needed.
Makeup Remover Wipes: I keep these in my nightstand for the nights I’m just too tired to wash my face or forgot until I climbed into bed. I once read that for every night you sleep in your makeup, you age your skin 30 days. Plus, makeup on your pillow is not pretty…
Lip Care: I stumbled upon this during one of my last trips when I forgot to pack my chapstick. I now don’t leave home without it. I especially use it all night at work since lipstick is a little much for my job. It gives a great natural berry pink tint to lips and keeps them moisturized.
Lip Reviver Balm: This is amazing. I love wearing bright lipsticks but many of them dry out my lips, especially now. This is a clear balm that you can put on over lipstick and rub your lips together and it moisturizes your lipstick and lips.
Highlighter: It’s a fact, your skin just looks a little more dull in the Winter. Over my makeup, I use this on my forehead, down the center of my nose and right on the top of my cheeks below the outer corner of my eyes. It gives a great glow without caking on a ton of bronzer.
I think its about time I invest in a Clarisonic. They appear to be swiffering the nation and I need to get involved.
